Dr. Frank Woods III is an accomplished educational leader dedicated to empowering students and teachers through innovation, collaboration, and purpose-driven leadership. A proud native Mississippian, Dr. Woods currently serves as Principal of Yazoo County Middle School, where he leads with the belief that “every child deserves access to excellence.”
Dr. Woods began his career as a science teacher, where he inspired students to explore curiosity and critical thinking through hands-on learning. In addition to teaching, he has coached football, sponsored various student organizations, and served as chair of several school committees—all focused on developing student leadership and fostering a strong sense of community.
His career has been marked by a deep commitment to academic improvement, student engagement, and positive school culture. Under his leadership, YCMS has focused on strengthening literacy and math proficiency, implementing data-driven instructional practices, promoting staff professional growth, and enhancing community partnerships.
Dr. Woods holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Education, all from Alcorn State University. He also earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College.
Beyond his professional work, Dr. Woods is passionate about mentoring educators, encouraging innovation in teaching, and ensuring students have the tools to succeed in a rapidly changing world. His leadership philosophy centers on faith, service, and the belief that schools thrive when relationships come first.
Dr. Woods continues to lead Yazoo County Middle School with vision and heart—preparing today’s Panthers to become tomorrow’s leaders.
